How to compress a photo to 50KB for a job application

You finished the form. You click upload. The site says the photo must be 50KB or smaller.

A phone photo is often a few megabytes. 50KB is a hard cap. The picture is not “bad.” It is just too heavy for that portal.

You can shrink it in the browser. This uses Savedfast’s image to 50KB page. Same compressor family as 100KB and the main image compressor.

No account. No install. The tool accepts several formats (JPG, PNG, WebP, and others) and can take more than one image at a time.

Before you start

  • Use a clear, well-lit face photo if the form wants a passport-style shot.
  • Crop extra background first if the portal also sets width and height.
  • Keep a copy of the original. Compress a duplicate.

Hitting *exactly* 50KB is not magic. The tool aims for that target. If the first pass lands a bit over, compress again or crop a little more.

Step 1: Open the 50KB tool

Go to savedfast.com/image-to-50kb.

You will see Select / drag-and-drop, a size box, format options, and a Compress button. There is also Crop & Resize if you need pixel size, not just file size.

Step 2: Upload the photo

  1. 1. Click Select Images or drop the file on the box.
  2. 2. You can add more than one photo if you have extras. The page allows a small batch.

Step 3: Set 50KB and compress

  1. 1. Confirm the target size is 50kb (that page is built for it). On the main compressor you can type the number yourself.
  2. 2. Click Compress.
  3. 3. Preview the result. Check that the face is still clear. A slightly softer photo that uploads beats a sharp photo the portal rejects.

Step 4: Download and try the form

  1. 1. Download the compressed file.
  2. 2. Check the file size on your phone or computer (long-press → Info, or right-click → Properties).
  3. 3. If it is at or under 50KB, upload it to the form.
  4. 4. If it is still over, crop tighter (less background) and compress once more. A smaller pixel size helps more than sliding quality into mush.

If the portal also wants inches or pixels

Many exam and government forms want both a file-size cap and a width × height. Use Crop & Resize on the same page, set the pixels they asked for, then compress to 50KB.

If they want JPG only, export or keep JPG. Do not upload a PNG if the form says JPEG.
