Someone sends you a link to a video in a Telegram channel. You want to keep it, but you don’t have Telegram on this device, or you want the file in a normal folder.

This guide shows how to save Telegram videos in a browser with Savedfast’s free Telegram video downloader, which links work, and when Telegram’s own save button is the better choice.

Only save videos you have the right to keep. More on that below.

Which Telegram videos can you download?

Public channel posts: usually yes. A public channel has a username, and its post links look like this:

https://t.me/channelname/123

Anyone can open these links, even without an account, so a browser tool can read them.

Private chats, private groups, and private channels: usually no. Links from these look like https://t.me/c/ followed by numbers, or they can’t be copied at all. Only members can see them, so an outside website cannot reach the video. If you paste one, the tool tells you the link looks private. For these, use Telegram’s built-in save option (below).

Step 1: Copy the post link

On a phone (Android or iPhone)

  1. Open the channel and find the video post.
  2. Tap the share arrow next to the post, or long-press the post.
  3. Tap Copy Link.

On a computer (Telegram Desktop or web)

  1. Right-click the video post.
  2. Choose Copy Post Link (or Copy Link).

Without Telegram

If someone sent you a t.me/channelname/123 link, just copy it. You do not need Telegram installed.

Step 2: Paste the link into Savedfast

  1. Open the Telegram video downloader in any browser.
  2. Tap Paste, or paste into the box that says Paste a video URL.
  3. Tap Download and wait a few seconds.

Step 3: Save the file

The page shows the post’s title and a table with Quality, Size, and a Download button. Check the size before you tap, especially on mobile data.

  1. Tap Download in the table.
  2. On iPhone, the video goes to the Files app, in Downloads. Open it, tap the share icon, and tap Save Video to add it to Photos.
  3. On Android, it goes to your Downloads folder. Most gallery apps show it there.
  4. On a computer, it goes to your browser’s download folder.

If the video opens and plays in a new tab instead of saving, use the browser’s download or share menu on that tab.

The built-in option: save inside Telegram

If you have the Telegram app and you are in the chat, you often don’t need any website. This is the best option for private chats and groups.

  • On Android: open the video, tap the three dots, and tap Save to Gallery (or Save to Downloads).
  • On iPhone: open the video, tap the three dots or the share icon, and tap Save Video.
  • On Telegram Desktop: right-click the video and choose Save Video As…

Some channels and groups turn on a setting that blocks saving and forwarding. If the save option is missing, the owner has chosen not to allow it. Respect that choice.

Big files and phone storage

Telegram can share very large videos, such as full lectures. Before you download:

  • Check the size in the Savedfast table. Big files are slow on mobile data, so use Wi-Fi if you can.
  • Check free space. On iPhone, go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage. On Android, open Settings and search for Storage.
  • Clear Telegram’s cache. If you also use the app, its cache can grow large. Look under Settings, Data and Storage, Storage Usage.

If your phone keeps filling up, move big videos off it into cloud storage, such as pCloud, and delete the local copy once it has uploaded.

Troubleshooting

“Please enter a valid URL.” The box needs a full link that starts with https://. Copy it again.

A message such as “This link looks private” or “No media found.” The link is probably private, or the post was deleted. Open the link in a normal browser tab. If the video doesn’t show there, the tool can’t read it either.

The post has text or a photo but no video. The tool only finds a video if the post contains one. Make sure you copied the link of the exact post with the video.

The download stops halfway. Big files need a steady connection. Switch to Wi-Fi and try again.

Respect copyright

Many Telegram channels repost movies, courses, and shows that they don’t own. Downloading a file doesn’t make it yours.

  • Save videos you made, or ones the owner has shared for you to keep.
  • Don’t repost someone else’s video as your own.
  • Don’t download paid courses or films that are shared without permission.
  • Follow Telegram’s rules and the copyright laws where you live.
